What is an STY file?
Music style created on a Yamaha or Korg synthesizer; typically contains a musical rhythm that includes multiple instruments; can be saved to a disk and loaded on compatible keyboards.
NOTE: Yamaha and Korg save STY files in different formats, meaning they are not cross-platform. Yamaha styles can only be used on Yamaha keyboards and Korg styles can only be used on Korg keyboards. Yamaha styles can be edited using Style Fixer, while Korg styles can be edited with the GNIStyle program.

Musical style file used by Band-in-a-Box, (BiaB) a program that automatically creates full band accompaniments; contains a playing style, such as Jazz, Rock, Hip-Hop, or Country; used for generating stylized sounds for a certain genre of music.
BiaB styles can be MIDI or they may use real instruments and drums, called RealStyles. RealStyles use real recordings of musicians for the audio samples.
STY files act as plug-ins for the Band-in-a-Box software. The software installation typically contains many different styles. Additional styles can be purchased and downloaded from the PG Music Band-in-a-Box website.

NewsMaker projects can contain one or more stories, each of which are stored in a separate STY file. Users don't open STY files directly since they are saved within the NewsMaker project directory by default and can be accessed from the opened project in the software.
